About Susan
Therapy can have the benefit of feeling connected, safe, and grounded - where personal issues are explored and considered with safety and support.
We thrive when we are in connected relationships. Within each of us are the resources for meaningful relationships, self-view, and finding our place in the world. Therapy can support strengthening these inner resources, it can lead to solutions to specific problems, and a reduction in symptoms that can leave us feeling out of balance.
I work from interpersonal, attachment, and developmental models so present-day issues or issues from the past are addressed and internal resources and inherent skills are strengthened. These skills and internal resources will support us during life's challenges, and bring resources to the negative effects felt from yesterday.
A safe therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance to me and I strive to provide people with efficient and useful therapy work as part of my commitment as a psychotherapist. Working collaboratively with you to identify goals for therapy and establish treatment priorities is how we will begin our work together. Some of the issues I work with are PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Compulsive Behaviors, Trauma, Relationship and Family problems, workplace issues, and career transitions.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the Ontario College of Psychotherapists. I received my training at the University of Saint Paul, in Ottawa, with a specialization in Individual Counselling. I was an Associate Therapist and volunteered as the Administrative Director at the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma for 10 years following graduation and have worked in private practice in Ottawa since 2007. I am currently Director and Associate Therapist at Glebe Psychotherapy. I have trained in various therapies including EMDR, AEDP, Existential and Psychodynamic approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Sandtray Worldplay, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and different Experiential techniques. I pursue ongoing clinical supervision and continuing education as part of my professional development.
In addition to providing therapy services, Susan provides clinical supervision to University Students completing internships, as well as to Registered Psychotherapists, and RP (Qualifying).
